LGBT HERO, the parent organisation of OutLife is conducting a focus group for LGBTQ+ people with mental illness (ie anxiety, depression, or other) who are, or have been, smokers. The focus group will take place on December 10th at 6pm and participants will receive an Amazon e-voucher worth £20 in recognition of their time.

During the focus group participants will be asked to talk about their experience of smoking and smoking cessation, and discuss factors such as motivation to quit, and what good interventions look like. The whole session should take 1.5 / 2 hours to complete, and will take place at HERO's offices in Brixton.

If this sounds like you, then send an email to [email protected] with the subject "Smoking Focus Group" that includes your name and location.

Below is some information from The Mental Health Consortium, which has instructed HERO in this work:

"The Mental Health Consortium has been commissioned to investigate healthy weight management interventions for people with severe mental illness. The project, which is funded by the VCSE Health and Wellbeing Alliance, will report on challenges and successes in this area, and it will make recommendations on how interventions can be improved.

We are interested in the topic of smoking cessation because it is something that people tell us they struggle with and it is important to them. Whilst smoking cessation can be difficult for most people, we know that people severely affected by mental illness face additional barriers due to a range of complex factors."
